Pork Chops with Apples and Onions
Ingredients
- 4 pork chops about 1 inch thick
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper
- 4 apples
- 2 onions
- ¾ cup water or apple cider
- 2 tsp. prepared mustard
- 1 tsp. dried thyme optional
Instructions
- Quarter and core the apples and slice into thin wedges.
- Cut the onions in half and then into thin slices.
- Season the pork chops on both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat oil in a large pan on medium high heat. Cook pork chops about 3 minutes on each side. Thicker chops may need a few more minutes, but don’t overcook.
- Transfer the pork chops to a plate and cover them with foil.
- Add the apples and onions to the pan and cook for 5 minutes, until tender.
- Mix water or apple cider with mustard and thyme. Add the mix to the pan. Stir and scrape up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Add the pork chops and any juices back into the pan to warm them up. If your pork chops are thicker, you can keep cooking them with the apples and onions for a bit longer. Check the pork chops for doneness by cutting into the thickest part or by using a meat thermometer. Pork should be cooked to at least 145°.
Notes
Tip: Use sausages instead of pork chops.
