Green Beans with Tomatoes

Course Side Dish

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound green beans
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or olive oil
  • 1 1/2 cups cherry tomatoes or 1-2 normal tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Trim the green beans and cut the tomatoes in half. If you use bigger tomatoes, cut them into smaller pieces.
  • Place the green beans and 1/4 cup water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil. As soon as the water comes to a boil, cover the pan, turn the heat down, and cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Add the butter or oil, garlic powder, tomatoes, salt, and pepper.
  • Turn the heat up if needed and cook for another 2 minutes until the tomatoes are soft.

Notes

If you don't have fresh tomatoes, use a small can of diced tomatoes. Add the tomatoes at the start of the cooking process.
Additional seasonings that work well: Oregano, thyme, basil, or Italian seasoning to taste.
