Willing Hands Begins Work to Double Negative Carbon Footprint
More than a year ago, we set out with an ambitious goal: measure the climate impact of our work, and then identify ways to double that impact.
With support and guidance from a group of community climate leaders, we identified and refined dozens of strategies for reducing direct emissions from our daily operations and increasing avoided emissions from food recovery.
Now, we’re excited to share our Climate Action Plan with the community and begin making progress toward the goals it outlines. In fact, work has already begun: With funding from the Woodworth Fund at Norwich Congregational Church, we installed a heat pump in the Willing Hands office, which will reduce our annual propane usage by about 75 percent. We’re also in the process of buying an electric van and cultivating new food recovery partners.
It’s an exciting time at Willing Hands, and we hope you’ll join us as we work together on community climate solutions!
